Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic Massage center at OM Spa Charlotte

OM Signature Massage: Our signature massage is designed exclusively for relaxation. Therapists use Swedish massage techniques and aromatherapy to relieve muscular tension and reduce stress. This massage is ideal for those who prefer light to medium pressure.

Deep Tissue Massage: This therapeutic massage aims to correct postural imbalances, restore mobility, and improve overall body function. Therapists use myofascial release, neuromuscular trigger point therapy, and other techniques to target deeper layers of the muscles and connective tissue. This massage involves a firmer pressure than our signature massage.

Sports Massage: This massage helps the body prepare for or recover from strenuous activity or athletic training. A variety of techniques are used to promote circulation, improve range of motion, encourage muscle repair, and prevent injury. Clients will remain clothed and should wear comfortable athletic clothing (shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, sports & leggings) that allows for free movement.. the most common techniques used in sports massage include stretching (resistance, active, or PNF stretching), kneading, friction, percussion, and long flushing strokes.

Hot Stone Massage: Hot stone massage combines Swedish and/or deep tissue massage with heated basalt stones. The heat from the stones helps to relieve muscle tension, improves blood flow to tight areas, and may help to reduce pain. Available as 80 or 100-minute services only.

OM Prenatal Massage: Prenatal massage provides nurturing support for an expectant mother. This massage is performed side-lying and is intended to relieve discomfort tension, and fatigue commonly associated with pregnancy. The side-lying position helps to avoid unnecessary pressure on a woman’s growing abdomen. This massage is available to women at least 12 weeks pregnant.

Thai Massage: This unique form of bodywork is performed on a mat on the floor with the client fully clothed. It combines acupressure, yoga, passive stretching, and deep, direct pressure to muscles in a slow rhythmic series of movements. Therapists use their palms, thumbs, forearms, elbows, knees, and feet to apply pressure. Thai massage relieves muscular tension, promotes relaxation, increases blood circulation, improves flexibility, and restores energy. Clients should wear comfortable clothing that allows for freedom of movement. For those who have difficulty getting on and off the floor, Thai massage can also be performed on the table.

Clinical Treatments

Cupping: Cupping or cupping therapy uses either specialized plastic cups with pumps and valves or silicone cups to create an area of suction against the skin. This for of decompression therapy helps to manage pain, break up scar tissue, and improve blood circulation. *Please note: the vacuum effect of the cups on the skin can cause spotting/skin discoloration that resembles a bruise. Spotting is the accumulation of cellular waste and is temporary and painless.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD): MLD is gentle, very light touch manual therapy that stimulates the movement  and drainage of lymph fluid. MLD helps the lymphatic system perform more efficiently and can be used effectively for the management of pain due to its analgesic effect. MLD is indicated for the management of certain conditions such as migraines, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, burns, and post-surgical swelling. MLD is not a permanent treatment for cellulite but may help to temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite. This treatment is NOT intended to manage lymphedema.

Oncology Massage: this is skilled touch for people living with cancer or who have a cancer history. Cancer can be complex and presents differently in different people. Massage will be tailored to treat the client’s presentation of the disease, not the disease itself. This massage is intended to safely manage pain, reduce fatigue, and other negative side effects of cancer treatment.

Foot Reflexology: Reflexology is an ancient technology that has been mapped for today's world. It is a method to activate healing powers in the body by manipulating  various pressure sensors in the feet. By improving blood circulation, clearing lymph stagnation and balancing energy flow, the body is stimulated to heal and re-energize  itself.   Reflexology helps relieve pain, improve circulation, realign dysfunctional stress patterns and speed healing. When combined with energy field alignments, chakra balancing, and aromatherapy we have the ultimate relaxation experience.
