What is VPL Vein Removal and how does it work?
VPL Vein Removal is an FDA approved cosmetic treatment designed to deliver a pulse or several pulses of light that are absorbed by the vein. The laser causes the vein to break up and be absorbed by the body. VPL Vein Removal is highly effective in the treatment of varicose veins, as well as rosacea.
VPL Vein therapy is safe and has few possible complications. Common side effects are discomfort, redness and bruising around the treatment area. Limiting exposure to the sun will greatly reduce the likelihood of complications.
No downtime is needed, however you should not exercise for a couple days following your treatment.
How many treatments will be needed?
The vast majority of veins treated will disappear within 2 to 3 treatments. Treatments are administered in 3 to 4 week intervals. Additional treatments may be needed to achieve desired long-term results. New vein may appear with time and will require additional treatments.
What will my treatment feel like?
Most clients experience a tingling, hot sensation. Some describe a stinging sensation, similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin.
What are alternative treatments?
An alternative to VPL Vein Removal is sclerotherapy, in which a saline solution is injected into the target area of the skin. There can be anywhere between 40 and 50 injections per treatment.
Is VPL Vein Removal suitable of all people?
Patients with spider veins on their legs or face are good candidates for VPL Vein Removal. Patients with both light and dark complexions are ideal candidates for treatment. VPL is not recommended for people on high doses of blood-thinners, those on photosensitizing medications, or those with bleeding disorders.
Before treatment instructions:
Patients should not tan or stay in the sun for extended periods of time 4 weeks prior to treatment. Patients should discontinue use of Accutane® and Retin-A® for six weeks prior to treatment. Aspirin and other blood-thinners should also be avoided for at least 3 days prior to treatment. Shave the area before your treatment.
Avoid sun exposure for 2 weeks after your treatment. If needed, over-the-counter pain medication may be taken to reduce discomfort. Apply a cool compress to reduce any redness and/or swelling.
